About GSMT

Since 2010, Granite State Music Therapy has partnered with families, schools, and healthcare professionals to bring the power of music into people’s lives. We believe music can spark connection, growth, and healing in ways that words alone cannot.

Our mission is to provide high-quality clinical and educational music services that support the whole person emotionally, physically, socially, and cognitively. Every client we work with is seen as a unique individual, never just a diagnosis.

We value creativity, compassion, and collaboration in everything we do. Our therapists work across communities in southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts, sharing music in homes, schools, and organizations of all kinds. You’ll also find us connecting through community events, fundraisers, and professional workshops because we love spreading awareness and joy through music wherever we go.

As an intern at GSMT, you’ll be welcomed into this supportive, close-knit team. You’ll grow as both a clinician and musician while discovering how music can truly change lives, including your own.

About the Internship

The GSMT internship is a six to nine month full-time learning experience of up to 1,200 hours designed to give you the tools and confidence to step into your professional role as a board-certified music therapist.

You’ll gain hands-on experience with clients of all ages and abilities across a variety of community and clinical settings.

Internship benefits include:

  • Hands-on mentorship and clinical supervision

  • Experience blending music therapy and adaptive music education

  • Exposure to clients across multiple ages, abilities, and settings

  • Monthly gas card for travel compensation

  • Opportunities for leading community music groups and events

Where You’ll Make Music

Our interns serve clients in diverse settings throughout southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts, including:

  • Homes

  • Community centers

  • Adult day programs

  • Churches and faith communities

  • Long-term care and skilled nursing facilities

  • Schools and special education programs

  • Rehabilitation and mental health facilities

At GSMT, we provide both music therapy and music education services. Many of our music therapists facilitate adaptive lessons, using their specialized skills to meet learners where they are and support sensory, cognitive, and emotional needs through individualized approaches. As an intern, you’ll get to experience this blend of therapy and education firsthand.

Internship Requirements

    • Comfortable using guitar, piano, percussion, and voice in a clinical setting, with the ability to adapt your playing style to suit each client and setting.

    • Working knowledge of treatment planning from assessment through implementation and evaluation.

    • Open to feedback and eager to grow through supervision.

    • Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, families, caregivers, teachers, and collaborating professionals.

    • Be organized, self-motivated, and proactive. While our team is deeply supportive, GSMT does not operate from a central office. Our therapists work independently in the field and collaborate regularly for supervision and support. Interns should take initiative, embrace accountability, and not be afraid to ask for help when needed.

  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license for travel throughout southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.
