Springing Forward: Realigning Your 2026 Vision
Welcome to April! And even more enthusiastically, welcome to spring!!! 🌷🌳🐣
Remember back in January when I encouraged us to set intentions for the new year? We’ve reached our springtime checkpoint! If this is the moment you’re remembering your intentions for the year, great! I’m so glad I could be here to help you refocus your energy. And if you’ve been making headway and really leaning into the feelings you want to cultivate for your year, great! I’m so glad to hear this approach is working for you. Let the new found warmth and light of the spring season re-inspire your gratitude practice. We’ve already come so far in 2026! Take a moment now to pause and lean into your breath. What do you notice? We survived cold dark nights and intense icy storms, all the while remembering those dark moments don’t last forever. That season is behind us. Take another breath. Envision the vibrant colors this next season has to offer us, it’s time to implement our intentions and bloom!
Now is the time to “spring” into action! Embrace your thoughts, nurture your mind gently, and practice mindfulness. Are your intentions from January still resonating? It’s okay if they’re not. Sit with that feeling for a moment and remember, intentions can change. We’ve spent the last couple of months cozying up, sitting with our feelings, and daydreaming about what the warmer months shall bring. As April arrives, I encourage you to reflect on the moments and experiences you’ve had so far this year. Maybe you’ve already made adjustments or even added to your intentions list! And maybe you’ve been caught up in the hustle and bustle and totally forgot you even had these new years intentions. Both of those experiences are valid; it’s so easy to get lost in our thoughts! In fact, let’s take another deep breath. Look around your space and identify 3 items that are green, 2 items that are homemade, and 1 item that sparks joy. Stay in this place for just another moment…and just like that, we practiced gratitude and grounded ourselves in one experience. Thanks for doing that with me.
Getting out of our heads and looking at this without judgement will help us significantly more than the shame spiral ever will. In music therapy, we believe in “meeting people where they are.” To put it simply, it means that we are present and person-centered when providing care to our clients. For me, this practice extends to my own personal life as well. It becomes significantly easier to implement an approach in your professional life when that value resonates with your personal experience. I say all this to say, meet yourself where you are. It’s super easy to do this when we’re experiencing positive emotions, but it’s arguably more important to practice when negative emotions are at the forefront. If you’re mad, be mad! Acknowledge it, sit with it, and honor it. You’ll be surprised how much quicker your body is able to shift past that uncomfortability when you’re not running from it or placing shame on it.
My hope is that this blog serves as a checkpoint to help you realign, redefine, and refocus your energy as we shift into this fresh season. To take what resonates and leave what doesn’t. If there are adjustments needed, make it happen. If you’re feeling good about where you’re headed, keep the faith. Most importantly, decide and do! I’ll see you all in May!
